Band E-News: March 5-9, 2018

Congratulations to the Wind Ensemble for their professionalism and efforts during last week’s Concert Assessment!

Now that this performance is over, our spring preparations begin in earnest and we will soon begin looking toward plans for the future. This week, the pizza kit fundraiser will be delivered on Tuesday. Please read the important information about this delivery below. There are also several things happening in classes this week. That information is also below.

Band Schedule – March 5 – 9

Monday, March 5
NO Booster Meeting – we will hold our Booster meeting on Tuesday to coincide with the pizza kit pick-up
Tuesday, March 6
Pizza Kit Delivery/Pick-Up – 2:30 – 6:00 p.m.
Please note: these kits can only be out of the freezer for a few hours. Make plans now to pick-up and deliver these to your customers.
Band Booster Meeting – 5:30 – 6:15 p.m.
Thursday, March 8
Jazz Band – 3:45 – 5:00 p.m.
In Class
Symphonic Band – Monday - Chamber Performances; Friday – Eb Scale Test
Percussion Ensemble – Eb and Ab scales; Stevens Grip
Wind Ensemble – Scale pass-off recordings Tuesday and Thursday; Spring Concert sight reading

There are many resources on our website!
Band room can be used for before- and after-school practice. You must have transportation and check with Mr. Stanley in advance.

Announcements, Updates, Information

Revised Calendar
Some changes to the calendar (clarifications of times, dates, etc.) are now posted electronically on the website. Students received a hard copy of March-April last week. A revised hard copy for May will be distributed later.
One CHANGE – Booster Meeting will be on Tuesday, March 6 (not 3.5.18).
Pizza Kits
The orders have been placed and delivery is scheduled for Tuesday, March 6 from 2:30-6:00 p.m.
Please note: these kits should not be out of the freezer for long before being refrozen. Make plans now to pick-up and deliver these to your customers.
Band Booster Meeting
We will meet on Tuesday, March 6 to coincide with the pizza kit delivery. (No meeting on Monday, March 5.)
Individual Practice
Remember: rehearsal occurs in the band room. To be prepared for rehearsal, you must practice outside of class! This is your standing homework assignment for band. Increases in outside practice WILL help us improve.
Parents, please help our program grow in quality by encouraging practice at home and engaged rehearsals at school (this means no cell phones). It is not always easy to listen to a student practice, but creating the expectation and opportunity for this to occur regularly at home is an important show of support for your child’s musical education. Forced practice can result in hating music. However, encouragement is a healthy way to show students you support their efforts to improve natural abilities.
