Happy Thanksgiving! WF Band: Nov. 20-24, 2017

Monday, November 20, we have a required after-school symphonic band rehearsal from 3:30-5:00 PM. This serves as a “litmus test” for our winter concert, guiding our preparation and plans for after the Thanksgiving Holiday. Band Boosters, please note the announcement below regarding Nov. 27. I appreciate your responses so that we can make a plan for fruit tabulation.

Schedule items below are for the next two weeks. December is always a busy time for musicians; I look forward to celebrating the Season with great performances.

On a personal note, I hope you will all take a moment to remember our band when giving thanks this week. It is easy to take it for granted and lose focus as we near the end of a long semester. But, I truly believe that developing our talents and sharing our gifts leaves us with more than just music. We gain life skills and a deeper understanding of each other. Music ensembles can give us the common ground and compassion needed to rise above the mundane and create something extraordinary. We must give thanks for and seize this opportunity. Thank you for allowing me to serve as your director.

Band Schedule – November 20 – December 2, 2017

  • Symphonic Band Rehearsal – 3:45 – 5:00 PM

  • FYI: reference recordings for some of our music are now posted on the current member page of our website. Look for the box “Links and Recordings.”

  • Monday, November 27

  • ALL FRUIT AND MONEY ORDERS DUE (no exceptions)

  • ​Band Boosters: Fruit Tabulation and Meeting

  • Tuesday, November 28

  • All District Help/Practice Session – 3:45 – 5:00 PM

  • ​All are welcome to come and practice in this open session. Special attention will be given to the All District etude and audition material. You are not required to stay the whole time, but you must be in the band room by 3:45 PM and you must be practicing. All students must have transportation by 5:00 PM.

  • ​Please utilize the Audition Central webpage for great resources!

  • Friday, December 1 – Saturday, December 2

  • All-City Band (selected students)

Announcements, Updates, Information

  • Attention Band Boosters: We are moving the December meeting to Monday, November 27. This is the date the fruit orders are due and we need some assistance tabulating and submitting the order. Please let Mr. Stanley if you are available on Monday afternoon to help tabulate. We will set a start time based on responses. After tabulations, we will hold a brief meeting to discuss the Christmas parade and winter concert.

  • Please ensure you are following the revised November/December calendar. More information on this revision is available here.

  • Please make sure you secure your concert attire. This is ALL BLACK (no exceptions)! For more information on appropriate concert attire, please consult pg. 15 of the band handbook, available here​.
