Competition #3 Recap.
Congratulations to the Marching Colonels for their performance at the George Wythe Band Festival on Saturday, October 14!
The band received a “Superior” (I) rating for their performance. Although records of marching contests are not as comprehensive as concert band, we can definitively announce this is the first superior rating for the Marching Colonels in at least six years!
Our overall numerical score was 84.70, up 20.25 points from two weeks prior. The music, marching, and general effect caption scores increased by 25, 14, and 25 points respectively from the competition on September 30.
Out of the 20 bands who competed on Saturday, here are some other important items to acknowledge:
2nd Place Band Overall in classes A-AA (out of 9 ensembles)
We were 2.3 points shy of winning “Class A-AA 1st place Band of the Day” (out of 9 bands)
1st place percussion – Class AA
3rd highest percussion score of the day (out of 20 bands)
2nd place general effect – Class AA (by 0.9 points)
2nd place music – Class AA (by 0.8 points)
2nd place marching – Class AA (by 0.6 points)
7th place overall (out of 20 bands; we were the 7th smallest band in attendance)
The Cavalier Classic at Lord Botetourt High School is on Saturday, October 21, 2017. The performance time for the Marching Colonels is 2:15 PM. We hope that you will consider taking the short drive to support us at a local show. These students have worked very hard since mid-July to create a performing group that entertains and supports our school community. Let’s fill the stands at our final competition and show them our appreciation!
Thank you for your continued support of William Fleming Bands and the Fine Arts at WF!
