Competition #2 Recap.
Congratulations to the Marching Colonels for their performance at the Celtic Classic at Glenvar High School on Saturday, September 30. The performance was the strongest to date. The Marching Colonels received an “Excellent (II)” rating and second place percussion in our class, missing first place by just 2 points. The band performed with six other groups in class 2A. This was the largest class of the day and the grand champion was in our class. It was a very competitive event.
Our visual focus during the last week paid off, increasing our marching and maneuvering score by 5 points from our first contest. Many captions were very close in scoring, where the Marching Colonels missed a higher rank by 1 point or less. The three bands in our class with whom we were most competitive all had an overall score that was within 1 point of each other.
Over the next two weeks, we will work to improve musically and further develop the overall concept of our performance. The George Wythe Band Festival is scheduled for Saturday, October 14 in Wytheville, VA. We are excited to continue our growth and momentum for the third contest of the season. This is the most competitions the Marching Colonels have attended in at least 5 years. We appreciate your support and encouragement of the program.
