Band Camp Week #2: July 31 - August 4

It is shaping up to be a great season for the 2017 Marching Colonels. I want to extend a personal thank you to all members and staff who contributed to our first week of camp. We are excited to begin putting the show on the field for our full and official “band camp,” July 31 – August 4. Please review the important information below, including the weekly schedule for camp, meal information, themed days, and links about materials you need.

Please make sure you prepare for camp with outdoor activity (other than band camp). Go outside at some point on your own when we are not rehearsing and drink lots of water every day before and after camp. Please come prepared sun-gear (hat, glasses, and sunscreen). Each member is asked to bring their own water bottle every day. We will take frequent breaks during outdoor rehearsals, but these will be most beneficial only if everyone can quickly get their own water from the sideline for regular hydration.

Band Schedule – Band Camp Week #2 – July 31 – August 4

8 AM – 5 PM each day

Monday, July 31

  • Theme: Music Monday

  • Dress up as your favorite musician, sport a t-shirt of your favorite band, or wear a music-inspired costume

  • Lunch: provided

  • Make-Up Uniform Fittings

  • Salem DCI Show

  • WFHS is hosting the Spirit of Atlanta Drum and Bugle Corps on Monday. We will be fortunate to observe some of their rehearsals and run through performances. The full show is Monday night at the Salem stadium.

  • DISMISSAL TIME on Monday will depend on the schedule of Spirit. Depending on how late they stay Monday afternoon, we may wrap up our day early. Thank you in advance for your understanding and flexibility.

Tuesday, August 1

  • Theme: A Day at the Movies

  • Dress up as your favorite movie star, movie character, or wear a movie-inspired costume

  • Lunch: pack your own

  • Star City Music Sells…

  • Star City Music will be coming to camp around 4:40 PM. They will have flip folders, lyres, gloves, and accessories in stock ready for purchase! Shoes can also be ordered at that time. Please come prepared to get your needed materials. Here is a pricing estimation:

  • ​Flip folder - $7

  • ​Lyre - $3-5

  • ​Gloves - $3/pair

  • ​Shoes - $35-$40

Wednesday, August 2

  • Theme: Wacky Tacky Wednesday

  • Clothes don’t match? Good. You’re set for Wacky Wednesday!

  • Lunch: provided

Thursday, August 3

  • Theme: Color by Section

  • ​Each section will be assigned a different color to wear on Thursday!

  • Lunch: pack your own

​​​​Friday, August 4

  • Theme: Colonel Pride!

  • Wear your best blue and gold as we show our Colonel Pride on the last full day of band camp! We will also wear WFHS gear during our preview show.

  • Lunch: pack your own

  • Preview Show and Potluck

  • We will showcase all the hard work completed during our summer rehearsals on Friday, August 4. The show will begin at 6:00 PM on our practice field (weather permitting). A potluck will follow in the WFHS cafeteria. We kindly ask that each family attending bring a dish large enough for all attending (including the band student) and one 2-liter drink.
