Spring Trip this Week!


Welcome to April!

Before Spring Break (April 15-23), we have preparatory events for marching band, jazz band rehearsals, and our trip to Pennsylvania (April 7-8). Please thoroughly review this update. It contains many pieces of important information, including our revised calendar through the end of this school year.

Band Schedule– April 5-14

  • Monday, April 3

  • Spring Trip Chaperone/Band Booster Meeting – 5:30 p.m. in the band room

  • This is an important meeting for all trip chaperones and for coordinating end-of-year activities.

  • Tuesday, April 4

  • Drum Major Training – 3:30 – 5:00 p.m.

  • Thursday, April 6

  • Jazz Band – 3:30-5:00 p.m.

  • Friday, April 7

  • Spring Trip Day 1

  • Report to band room at 4:30 a.m.

  • Saturday, April 8

  • Spring Trip Day 2

  • 10:00 p.m. – approximate return/pick-up

  • Tuesday, April 11

  • Drum Major Training – 3:30-5:00 p.m.

  • Drum Line Clinic #1 – 4:00-5:30 p.m.

  • Thursday, April 13

  • Jazz Band – 3:30-5:00 p.m.

Announcements, Updates, and Information

  • The Spring Trip to Pennsylvania is Friday, April 7 – Saturday, April 8.

  • Chaperones are requested to attend the meeting on Monday, April 3 at 5:30 p.m.

  • Hard copies of the itinerary and reminder list will be distributed in classes on Monday and Tuesday. Electronic copies are available here.

  • Students are reminded to check the postings of the bus and rooming lists prior to arriving on Friday morning.

  • A revised April/May 2017 calendar is published. Please familiarize yourself with our end of the year events and preparatory events for next year. You can download a copy here.

  • Drum Major training sessions continue on Tuesdays. If you are interested in learning more about conducting and leadership, we encourage you to participate. Even if you do not intend to apply for the position for 2017, the skills improve with the more practice and exposure you have. This is a great starting point for future leaders.

  • Private Lessons

  • Students wishing to take an additional step toward improving their musical skills might consider taking private lessons during the summer and/or school year.

  • Many RCPS staff members (including Mr. Stanley!) teach during the summer at reasonable rates.

  • Please contact Mr. Stanley for more information.
