WF Band Weekly Update: January 23-27

Thanks to all those who attended the mandatory trip meeting last week. An unofficial count shows that 31 of 44 total participants were present! While this is a great turnout, we must make sure all are on the same page with proper information. For everyone involved, take note of important spring trip updates at the bottom of this post.

Furthermore, remember that individual responsibility is a key to advancing the level and success of our ensembles. The best group rehearsals in the world can never take the place of individual preparation. This includes regular student practice at home. To encourage this, students will begin receiving semi-regular graded homework assignments. These may take the form of marking music, completing a worksheet, or documenting practice. Please be aware of these assignments and their importance for student grades and ensemble success.

This week’s goal: always let your individual contribution be one that positively affects our ensemble; never let something you do be a negative force in our team.

Band Schedule – January 23-27

  • Monday, January 23

  • A2 and A3 Homework Check

  • ​All accidentals should be marked in Colonel Bogey March.

  • Other assignments for the week will be announced (with deadlines) in class.

  • Thursday, January 26

  • Jazz Band

  • ​3:45-5:00 PM

  • ​A GREAT way to play lots of fun music and get better on your instrument! The ensemble is open to all players and meets on Thursday.

Little Caesars Pizza Kit fundraiser begins this week
  • Spring Trip Update

  • The presentation from the meeting is posted on the current forms page.

  • ​Take note of the information regarding documentation of medication (pg. 9).

  • Bright yellow permission/medical forms were distributed. Please thoroughly complete and return.

  • Balance sheets and payment schedules were distributed for each individual. If you did not receive your sheet or have financial questions, please contact me directly.

  • We do have some open spaces for students and/or parent chaperones. If you did not originally sign-up for the trip, but would like to go, please contact me directly ASAP, no later than January 30.

  • ​All open spaces will be filled on a first-come, first-serve basis.

  • ​These open spaces do require payment.

  • Rooming and bus lists were made available. Those who were not present or did not sign-up should see me during school.

  • Pizza Kit Fundraiser

  • Information distributed in-class this week.

  • All orders/money are due Monday, February 13.

  • Delivery is tentatively scheduled for Tuesday, February 28.

  • Expectations Contract

  • This refresher of information in our handbook and class syllabi was distributed last week. Returning the signed copy is a graded assignment. All are now past due. Please turn in ASAP! Many grades are low with this missing assignment!

  • January-May 2017 calendar

  • Please ensure you are using the most current version of the band calendar (distributed in hard-copy before Winter Break).

  • An electronic copy is available for download here.

  • Pay attention to website, Facebook, email, and texts for weather-related changes to the calendar.

  • Make-Up Exams and/or Chair Auditions

  • If you were absent or are missing part of your exam, please see Mr. Stanley. It is your individual responsibility to schedule make-up times. All make-ups must be completed by January 26, 2017.
