Welcome Back!

Welcome back! Thanks to our marching band for performing at the scrimmage on Friday. We all learned a lot, both what we are doing well and areas where we can improve before our upcoming home game.

For all students, including those who are not in marching band, please look for class information to begin appearing in weekly updates. Although September and October will contain a lot of marching band information, other forms, deadlines, and announcements apply to all students in the band program.

This week, note the due dates for the Band Handbook Contract and Discipline Form, Syllabus Contract, and Instrument Contract. These are due the second day of class and count as your first grade. Electronic versions of the handbook and class syllabi are linked in this message and available under the "current students - forms" section of the webpage.

The weekly schedule is below. It is hard to believe that we are beginning another school year. I look forward to continued service as your director and am excited to see how much we can accomplish together in 2016-2017!

Band Schedule – August 22-26, 2016

Monday, August 22

  • Full Marching Band Rehearsal

  • 3:30-6:30 PM

  • Color Guard sectional – 5:30 – 7:30 PM

Tuesday, August 23

  • Percussion and Drum Major Rehearsal

  • 3:30-5:30 PM

  • Color Guard will also meet during this time on Tuesday, August 23.

Wednesday, August 24

Thursday, August 25

  • Handbook, Syllabus, and Instrument Contract due for B-Day Classes

  • Full Marching Band Rehearsal

  • 3:30-6:30 PM

Friday, August 26

  • Home Football vs. Jefferson Forest

  • 3:30 – 9:30 PM

  • Attire: full band uniform

  • Full itinerary here.

IMPORTANT REMINDERS

  • Marching Band annual fees are being accepted at this time. This is a one-time fee of $50. Payments accepted as cash or checks made to William Fleming High School. Fees are due NEXT Friday, September 2. Please see Mr. Stanley if you have questions, concerns, or need more information. All financial conversations remain confidential.

  • Marching Band students must have secured black band shoes, black socks (mid-calf length), and white gloves by Friday. We will appear in FULL UNIFORM at Friday’s game.

  • Memorization of Marching Music

  • The following should be memorized in full by Friday:

  • Warm-Ups

  • Fight Song

  • National Anthem

  • Opener

  • Ballad

  • Failure to memorize these items by Friday will result in loss of privileges and/or extra duties. Please refer to the band handbook for more information.

  • Band Boosters will meet Monday, August 29 at 6:30 PM in the band room.
